11-9-23 Caltanissetta to Enna
I could have taken a bus or train to Enna. I chose a train because I knew where it was leaving from. (Stole that joke. Thanks neighbor.). Yeah, after missing that one bus, I was extra vigilant about the details. However, I tried to purchase tickets on Train Italia app, but they took my money and didn’t send a ticket.
I could take a taxi from the train station at Enna, but I decided to walk up the 3.5 miles uphill to town. It actually was a marked trail.
Yup, that’s the road ahead!
This was a nice part, just before meeting the main road, where I fearlessly scared off two unchained dogs with my hiking sticks.
It was a quiet road up from the station, that met a main road which quickly split off to a narrow country road that was super steep. Think SF steep streets or Oakville Grade. Soon though I was very near town.
Calascibetta.I again joined the main roadway, which had a nice easy grade up to town. Walking was easy. Ran into two crazy Germans walking to that town across the valley, Calasciabetta. (They made it and back. Just saw them in town)
Well- Caltanissetta had a crusty old charm, full of pigeon poop. This town may be just a bit more atmospheric. My apartment is splendid. Food shops on the corner. I like it here.
It even has a castle. Yeah!
I’ve decided I’m going to treat the rest of my trip like a Camino back to Palermo. I had a purpose on the Camino. I was there to figure out some aspects of how I think, and how I approach life. I think I understand assumptions, expectations and anticipation. I want to conquer anger, depression and communication. Lofty goals, perhaps, and I have four more weeks to take it on.
