11-7-23 To Caltanissetta

Goodbye Agrigento.  I left the apartment at 10:00.  My bus, number 4208 didn’t leave until 11:20 and I had ample time to immerse myself in book two of the Godfather trilogy.  Spent some of that time reading in a park and then went to the bus station to read more.

One would assume that if you bought a ticket the day before, at the bus station, that the bus would leave from the bus station.  I saw bus 4208 drive into town 20 minutes before departure time. Thought nothing of it. Maybe they are getting gas.  I saw the bus leave town at 11:23. Fuck!  In fact I said “fuck” and a well dressed young Italian man looked at me askance. One would also assume that a ticket seller would alert an obvious dumb ass stupid tourist, that the bus I just bought a ticket for leaves from another location.

So, I had to laugh this one off.  Days and days on a trail where I was contemplating expectations, assumptions and anticipation all possibly leading to disappointment; here I was.  I went over to the Taxi queue, and in five minutes was off to Caltanissetta for only.  .  .  €80. And seriously, I felt fine  I made a mistake. I found a solution  Everyone who travels knows it’s not always perfect .

Ironically, I had looked at the ticket several times to examine all details, but missed the location of departure. Also I did look around the corner as I was waiting but the location was a bit further from view.  How could I possibly anticipated that?  Now the question I must ask for the rest of my life, when purchasing a bus ticket is: Does the bus leave from here?

Up from the train/bus station.
Flatiron building New York
My place is a nicely renovated old building blocks from the bus station and 400 M from old town.

There are nice little alleys .

There are beautiful churches and stately civic buildings.  It’s noticeably a bit more economically challenged than Agrigento.  Around the old center are sprawling suburbs of multistory apartments for a long distance.  In all of towns near the south there is established communities of African immigrants and they appear to be well integrated into the cities here.  But I don’t know any particulars.

Food:
OK sorry, I’ve complained a lot.  I forget I’m in another place. There are no supermarkets here.  I’ve dreamed of supermarkets for two weeks.  Wake up Tim.

If you see something you need, buy it then.  Even if the store has only one thing you need, buy it.  I will most usually have to go to two mini markets and a produce store to get everything. There are cafes and bars that sell Arancine or rice balls with meat filling and/or small pizzas.  ( although my pizza I bought last night was in the same case as the pastries, so it smelled sweet and created a strage taste). Stores and produce stands close unpredictability.  Buy now. Be full later.

Let me know what you think. Really! Talk to me.
