11-5-23 Valley of the Temples

People are Stupid.

Fuck Google Maps.  Fuck them !!!  Oh, they’re ok sometimes.

I walked 2.5 miles to the ticket office for Valley of the Temples as suggested by Google Maps.  I was there at 8:50 AM , 10 minutes before opening, and had time to check out where the entry gates were and that the ticket office was in the museum, where this wonderful ancient bust is located.

Entry gate across from the museum.

Near the ticket office at the Museum.

At 9:00 I went into the ticket office and told them I wanted a ticket to Valley of the Temples.  It was free day. No tickets needed.  I went back across the road to the gates and they weren’t open and no one was around.  I went back to the museum to ask them when the gates would open. That’s when I learned the entrance to the “Valley” was 2 Km away. Why they couldn’t have told me that first-people are stupid.

So I adjusted my mood and had a good 40 minute walk to ancient ruin lottery win.

It was pretty spectacular and despite my not so early entrance, I was ahead of the tour buses.

Later in the day this photo op was impossible!

I had never seen Ancient Greek ruins before, but I know these have to be some of the best. This area was lived in by many cultures before the Greek period, but I’m sorry I can’t tell you all that. It’s been a crossroads of history for a long time.

There was a Villa from a person who lived at this site in the 1800s. He had some old art.

On my way out, I observed people behaving badly at an ancient heritage site. Don’t be so fucking stupid people!!!

I left the Valley of the Temples about 11:15 envisioning a great lunch in town.

I took a different way back on a main road and eventually connected to the main tourist street.

It was 12:10 and I chose a seafood restaurant near my place.  Sorry they open at 1:00.  I went home to rest and went back to order fish and chips with vegetables, a full meal. I hadn’t eaten a full lunch or dinner since Prizzi, 8 days ago. They didn’t have fish and chips (I actually wondered if they said that to make me order other stuff) I had a prawn pasta, and it was delicious and it was not a full meal.

So I have struggled with getting adequate food the whole hike and now a free day I struggle as well. I’m eating food, just not full meals. It reached such a point of utter frustration for me this afternoon.  I am going to try another not so fancy restaurant for lunch tomorrow and hope to get some protein in my body.  The arancine or rice balls are delish, as is the pizza but I need a hunk of fish or a steak at this point.
