11-2-23 Milena to Recalmuto
Another amazing and shorter hike today. It started with my ride getting there right on time. It was a filthy car, the guy stayed inside as I shlept my bag inside. I tried to introduce myself, but he just motioned me inside. He never said his name. It was a 10 minute ride to Milena from Campofranco. He only charged me €10 and that’s all I paid. One of those kind of rides.
Views of Milena and Sutera in the distance.
Nice short hike.
Beautiful expansive landscapes giving way to clear thinking.
Olive harvest season.

I think that big mountain is Mt. Etna!
I’ve worked through many thoughts on expectations, anticipation, and assumptions, how they are interrelated thought processes. They cloud our experience of the present. Disappointment can result from these. Or you can choose acceptance or even gratitude in its place. Then there is hope. A hope that is pure and one based on expected outcomes. Anticipation can have a positive form-intention.
Somewhere after a big uphill, I ran into the guy from Milan. He was confused that I was in front of him. I explained that I was getting rides ahead but he just didn’t get it.
The cemetery in Racalmuto. I wondered why it was full of people with all the graves full of flowers. It was November 2, All Saints’ Day.
My ride ahead strategy is working well. I’m having some amazing hikes and I’m not destroying myself every day.
Recalmuto had a killer take out place that was open at 5:30. Yes!
Two more hikes to Agrigento. My Australian friends had four brutal hike days and took a train to Agrigento from Grotte. I will miss them.
